Curriculum

At Hyde Park Play School, the child comes first. We take pride in not only providing for their physical and emotional needs, but for their developmental needs as well. Our curriculum was handpicked for its balance between both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning. It is our goal to help the children develop the passion for learning that they will carry with them throughout their life.

Hyde Park Play School uses Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies designed to foster social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development and to enhance learning in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology.

It is based on five fundamental principles:

  1. Positive interactions and relationships with adults provide a critical foundation for successful learning
  2. Social-emotional competence is a significant factor in school success
  3. Constructive, purposeful play supports essential learning
  4. The physical environment affects the type and quality of learning interactions
  5. Teacher-family partnerships promote development and learning

Age Groups

Infants & Waddlers

Infants

(6 weeks to 18 months)

Parents can rely on our loving, dedicated staff of infant care providers, chosen for their warmth and affectionate personalities. They provide nurturing, age-appropriate stimulation, and lots of love. Our Infant rooms are immaculate, colorful, and well-equipped with toys and equipment similar to what you have at home for your baby and our teachers sit comfortably on gliders while holding, cuddling, and feeding your little ones! Our teachers use tablets equipped with the Brightwheel app to send daily information, updates and pictures to parents and/or grandparents. This new program is a time-saver for all, putting a lot of information into one quick email-reducing extra papers going home each day! It is reassuring to parents when they see a picture of their child’s day, knowing they are safe and well-cared for.

Toddlers

Toddlers

(18 months to 36 months)

Our toddler program is theme-based and includes developmental activities such as puzzles, blocks, music, riding toys, dramatic play, sand, and water. Our toddler rooms are also designed to be self-contained, with a diaper changing station as well as child-sized potties to begin the potty-training experience. Since Toddlers learn through play and exploration, we give them the space, age-appropriate materials, and stimulation they need to help quench their thirst for exploration. At this stage, we focus on eye-hand coordination, motor development and problem-solving.

Preschool

Preschool

(3 years to 4 years)

Our preschool children are exposed to a loving warm atmosphere, along with theme-based programs (see toddler program). We also offer learning, art, science, and dramatic play stations. Preschoolers will also enjoy the school visitors. Your child's daily pre-school experience will include social interaction and hands-on activities that combine learning with play.

Pre-K

PreK

(4 years to 5 years)

Our PreK program has built a strong reputation for kindergarten readiness due to the quality of our teachers, curriculum and programming. Our preK children work one-on-one with our Enrichment teacher as well as in small groups to enhance their reading readiness and other kindergarten skills. Our Prek program uses Creative Curriculum to help each child meet (and perhaps exceed!) the readiness skills required for them to take the biggest step of their little lives - starting Kindergarten! The teachers will track development and tailor activities appropriately to make sure that every child gets the most out of each lesson.
